i know that mangos are sweet

Do you know the Banana Song?  It’s always a favourite for kids of all ages at camp and Kids’ Club alike. The chorus goes:

I like bananas; I know that mangos are sweet

   I like papayas, PAPAYAS!

But nothing can beat:  The sweet love of God

A do do do wop…A do do do wop…A do do do wop…Do wop

I’ve had a hankering for mango.  Maybe it’s my impatience for summer to arrive. Maybe I just like mangos, especially when they’re on sale.  Maybe both.  Well, with the craving came the incessant rerun of this song in my head.  Could be hanging out with two almost one year-olds has me thinking of all the kids songs.ever. written.

Anyway, I decided I needed a mango smoothie.  I found a couple of recipes as I browsed Pinterest.  (This is quite likely the actual reason for my mango yen…that’s the whole idea, isn’t it…make us desire all the things ever created?)  There was the healthy Mango Frosty, the very pretty Strawberry-Mango Smoothie, and the Banana-Mango Smoothie with chia seeds, just to name a few. You can check out my yum! {smoothies} board for many more recipes.

In the end, I decided the KISS (keep it simple silly–or stupid, if you’ve no aversion to the word) approach would be best this time around.  Basically, I just threw these ingredients into the Magic Bullet:

  • about half a cup of frozen mango cubes
  • a generous spoonful of Greek yogurt
  • enough pineapple juice to make it not-too-thick
  • pulsed it until it was lovely and smooth
  • I didn’t add any sweeteners (I rarely do)

Ummm…can you say, “yum!”?  It was so good, so refreshing.  We thoroughly enjoyed it after a long walk with the grandlittles on an exceptionally beautiful day.
