I’m so excited! My Love and I are in the sky on our way to see our Alberta girl. It was a wonderful surprise to hear we would have a new pastor’s orientation near our girl! We were able to arrange to go a little early in order have the weekend with her before the meetings start. It’s been almost a year since I’ve seen my girl and I’ve missed her so much…I can’t wait to wrap my arms around her!
We awoke to a grey, windy, rainy day. It made our take off a little bumpy, but as we climbed above the clouds, I was struck by the beauty of looking down on them, clear blue sky above. Of course the verse “the heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” immediately came to mind. God reveals Himself to us in His creation. The heavens are so vast, unending, beyond our limited comprehension. I looked up Psalm 19 to see what else David was feeling as he considered God’s glory.
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,
Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.
Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. ~Psalm 19
‘More to be desired are they than gold…” Wow. David is awed by God’s statutes. God reveals Himself through His Words. The Bible is a love letter from God to us. It is an instruction manual for daily living on this earth and in preparation for eternity. I’ve been reading through the Psalms with my kids in our morning devos and we are currently spending some time on Psalm 119, which focuses on God’s Word. The question I’ve asked them and the challenge I present to myself is: “Do I desire God’s Word?” Sometimes reading my Bible is just another check on my to-do list. Then, I think of those dear ones living in areas where Bibles are forbidden or unavailable. They may have just one page. They read the same words over and over again. They are hungering and thirsting for every precious drop. A prized possession. Cherished.
May I have the same reverence for God’s Word in my life.
